Why we do it
As parents, we all want the world to see what we see in our children—their humor, creativity, curiosity, playfulness, originality, and passion—all the remarkable traits that make up their true intelligence. There’s no greater wish than for others to recognize and appreciate the beautiful qualities we know so well. But often, school performance doesn’t reflect what they’re truly capable of.
It might be because their behaviors can overshadow their gifts, making it harder for others to see what lies beneath. Instead, you get the phone calls, the emails and school meetings that can make you feel worried, embarrassed and angry. These emotions are not the recipe for a loving parent-child relationship. No one wants their child to stand out for being different in a negative way: disruptive, distractible, lazy, careless, unmotivated or behind. These words make us cringe.
As a matter of fact, your child’s “difference” isn’t a flaw; it’s a powerful design that functions best when your child understands how to navigate their needs. By learning personalized strategies, they can transform that difference into an asset that fuels confidence and growth.
Our Story
From the Classroom to Families
We are not just educators — we are also parents. Ryan spent nearly a decade as a learning support teacher in international schools, where he saw brilliance in children whose behaviors sometimes overshadowed their gifts. He purposefully left the school setting to bring that impact directly to families worldwide.
Imagine a clever child who cannot stay focused for fifteen minutes yet writes a twenty-four-page story when asked for one page. That brilliance was always there. After identifying struggles and building strategies for home and school, the transformation was undeniable.
For the past nine years, we have worked alongside learners, teachers, and parents to facilitate this shift — helping neurodivergent learners globally feel they belong, grow with consistency, and thrive with the right tools and guidance.

After nearly a decade as a learning support teacher in international schools, Ryan saw firsthand what neurodivergent learners can achieve with the right tools. He founded The Joy Mechanics to bring compassionate, skills-based coaching directly to families.
Judy
Co-founder and parent advocate. Judy brings the lived experience of raising a brilliant child and champions the belief that every mind deserves access to the tools that unlock their potential.
